The North Shore of Lake Tahoe has 12 ski resorts including the ski resort of Squaw Valley. The ski resort of Squaw Valley was built for the Winter Olympics in 1960. Squaw Valley on Lake Tahoe is considered to be the birthplace of extreme skiing. Offering plenty of terrain to suit all levels of snowboarder and some challenging snow parks makes boarding in Lake Tahoe the perfect destination. Skiing in Lake Tahoe offers fantastic off piste skiing with awe-inspiring mountain scenery in friendly, relaxed resorts. Heavenly is situated on the border with California and Nevada, at the southern end of Lake Tahoe. There are fourteen different resorts to ski and board in the area around the lake. The scenery is stunning. Heavenly has a spectacular setting, with amazing views of Lake Tahoe and Nevada. Lake Tahoe is North America's largest alpine lake. Heavenly ski resort is an easy 3-hour drive from San Francisco and only just over an hour from Reno.

With 4,800 acres, the resort of Heavenly is one of North America's largest mountains. At over 10,000 feet, it is Tahoe's highest. The ski resort of Heavenly straddles two states, California and Nevada and has a skiable area of 4800 acres. more >>

Squaw Valley

 

The Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley, California, is one of the largest ski areas in the United States, and was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. It is the second-largest ski area at Lake Tahoe, (after Heavenly), boasting highly-advanced chairlifts as well as the only Funitel in the United States (A Funitel is a type of high speed aerial lift used to transport skiers). Because of the resort's popularity, the entire community of Olympic Valley is commonly referred to as 'Squaw Valley.' 

Squaw Valley USA is located at the end of a stunning alpine valley high in the Sierra's and has a base elevation of 6300 feet. It is a winter playground for all ages. Skiing in Squaw Valley offers over 4000 acres of terrain and often receives 40 feet of snow.
